Yuk It Up With Urkel!: Hilarious Urkel Jokes, Silly Sayings, Riotous Riddles, Far-Out Facts, and More!
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (March, 1992)
Average review score:

Urkel is captivating!Often times when I watch Urkel and his antics I wonder, "Urkel, will you ever win?" He has won here, indeed. I was delighted to find the puns, silliness, and humor that could only be described as "Urkel-esque" or vintage Urkel. Urkel is one of the late twentieth century's greatest enigma's. What makes Urkel tick, one must wonder. This book provides the answer. It was intoxicating.
Great stuff!!!This has to be, without a doubt, my favourite book. Close second "Great Expectations," Charles Dickens. Anyone who knows both of these books well, will definitely see the connection. One thing that a lot of people fail to pick up on with Urkel is his AMAZING sense of humour! This aspect of Urkel is possibly THE light at the end of his dark and brooding tunnels of thought. There are so many questions...so many dichotomies...so much absurdity and inanity...one gets trapped inside a straight jacket trying to rationalize the irrational. But at the end of it, one HAS to laugh, from sheer pain and agony. Are not the funniest things extremely painful? I like the bit where Urkel plays on playground equipment like a monkey. Isn't it strange how such monkeys can suddenly defend themselves in argument with the utmost eloquence and precision? Also the scene involving officials who shuffle papers in and out of doors. I was virtually on the floor with laughter. I was IN the scene with Urkel...IN the corridor watching all this toing and froing.... Anyway enough talk....Read the book!

The Alien Probe
Published in Hardcover by Pocket Books (August, 1981)
Average review score:

Great Series to Introduce Young Boys to Science FictionThis particular incarnation of the Tom Swift series is a great place for young boys to discover science fiction. The stories are entertaining and do a good job of holding one's attention, plus the author attempts (with varied success) to weave in actual science here and there. I say the books are good for young boys because the protagonist is of course Tom Swift, and the format the adventure-story favored by many young boys, but the character Anita does offer a strong (but almost tomboyish) female role as well.
In the third story of the series, Tom must protect an alien space probe recovered from Io, one of Jupiter's moons, from theft while seeking to communicate with the artificial intelligence within. The story sets up the later works in the series as the probe helps Tom develop a hyperdrive and thus launch space exploration well beyond the moons of Jupiter.

Amazing Gems: An Illustrated Guide to the World's Most Dazzling Costume Jewelry
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (June, 1903)
Average review score:

A wonderful pictorial & educational Jewelry Source! This book by Dena Farnetti Cera has the most fabulous color pictures of jewelry spanning from the early 1900's thru the early 70's. Every single page is packed with insightful information on the designer, construction, craftsmanship, identifiable marks, and date of jewelry piece. Some of the examples in here are truly exquisite. A must have for any serious jewelry enthusiast to hardcore collector/dealer. It is very easy for one to peruse thru - whether you are looking for a particular designer/ manufacturer or style - you are sure to find it. It gives you a taste of many different designers. It is well organized & written - the picture quality is superb. The only thing it is lacking is prices. For someone looking to identify & educate themselves it is a Must Have! If you are trying to value your pieces - and need a price guide - this book does not offer that. Overall, this would be an important book to add to any costume jewelry library!

An Anatomy of the Marprelate Controversy 1588-1596: Retracing Shakespeare' s Identity and That of Martin Marprelate (Renaissance Studies)
Published in Hardcover by Edwin Mellen Press (June, 2001)
Average review score:

An informed and informative scholarly analysisAn Anatomy Of The Marprelate Controversy 1588-1596 is an amazing study by historian and biographer Elizabeth Appleton of a famous controversy in history concerning a Puritan writer who called himself Martin Marprelate. Marprelate used words to attack the episcopacy and the Anglican divines. Writing from a secret press and sparing no effort to criticize, Marprelate incited such uproar that he had to disappear; two writers took his place and continued to attack the Anglican bishops verbally. Then others entered the fray, creating a singularly spectacular war of words. An Anatomy Of The Marprelate Controversy 1588-1596 deftly recounts events of history, their interrelation with the classic works of Shakespeare, and the indelible imprint they left upon political events for future generations. An Anatomy Of The Marprelate Controversy 1588-1596 is a very highly recommended, meticulously presented, informed and informative scholarly analysis.

In this story--the first in the series--Tom's spacecraft has an engine accident. When similar problems plague an engine being developed by Tom's father's company for an upcoming mission to Jupiter, Tom must discover who is out to sabotage Swift Enterprises before their actions lead to thousands of deaths.
